On February 20, John Kelly, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, issue a memorandum that provides guidance in the implementation of the President's executive order on immigration. There are a few items that immigrants should be aware of.
1. If you are a deportable person and have been convicted of or charged with a criminal offense, the memorandum prioritizes you.
2. The memo also restores the program that shares biometric data between DHS and all "willing" jails and prisons.
3. ICE is authorized to 10,000 additional agents.
4. None of the provisions of the memo apply to persons covered under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA). The memo states that guidance for those persons will be forthcoming at a later date.
